RPP Slams Nagaland Government for Exclusion of Non-Naga Tribes from Nagaland Police Recruitment

Kohima, October 1: The Rising People’s Party (RPP) has strongly criticised the Nagaland government for excluding Non-Naga Indigenous Tribes from the recently announced police recruitment process, terming it an act of systemic marginalisation.

In a press release issued on Tuesday, the RPP acknowledged the state’s decision to open 1,176 posts of police constables through an “open rally” recruitment drive. However, it expressed disappointment that the notification dated September 30 invited applications only from candidates belonging to the Indigenous Naga Tribes of Nagaland.

Calling the move “disheartening,” the party stated that such exclusion not only denies crucial job opportunities to Non-Naga Indigenous Tribes but also reflects poorly on the state’s policymakers.

The RPP linked the issue to a broader problem of quota distribution in Nagaland. “While everyone has an opinion regarding the backward quota in terms of review, revocation, suspension, or dilution, only a few speak out for the inclusion of the most marginalised communities, such as the Non-Naga Indigenous Inhabitants of the state, who, above everyone else, deserve the backward quota the most,” the statement read.

The party further urged the government to correct what it termed a “policy failure,” stressing that the politics of the majority should not victimize the livelihood and dignity of non-Naga tribal minorities.
