Tengnoupal, October 10: The Centre for Women and Girls (CWG), in collaboration with the Camp Management Committee (Relief Camp) and 3 Assam Rifles, observed World Mental Health 2025 at the ZEO Relief Camp in Tengnoupal District on Friday. The event, held under the theme “Access to Service – Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies,” aimed to raise awareness about the importance of mental health, particularly for displaced persons living in relief camps.
Delivering the keynote address, Hechin Haokip, Executive Director of CWG, emphasized the significance of mental health in the face of crisis and displacement. She said, “The mind is a place too. A home can be destroyed, but mental health requires time, compassion, empathy, kindness, and care.” Haokip further stressed that mental health is a human right and a vital part of survival, recovery, and rebuilding. She urged the audience to recognize the importance of collective healing, stating, “Healing cannot happen in isolation. It happens when we feel seen, supported, and safe.”

The event featured a “Run for Mental Health” from Tengnoupal H/S ground to ZEO Relief Camp, various games and sports events, and painting and slogan writing competitions for youth and children. Distinguished guests, including Dr. Aachal Riyal, Assistant Commandant 3 AR, President KSO Tengnoupal, Chief of Tengnoupal Village, and religious leaders, graced the occasion, which was attended by numerous youths and students.
Through this observation, CWG and its partners aimed to promote mental health awareness and create spaces for psychological safety, emotional support, and trauma-informed care. The event highlighted the need to prioritize mental health, especially in times of crisis, and to work towards building a supportive community that fosters healing and resilience.
