New Delhi, October 14: A woman from Manipur was found dead and her husband seriously injured inside their Munirka flat in South Delhi late Sunday night, following what police suspect was a violent domestic altercation. Both were discovered lying in a pool of blood inside their locked bathroom, with a knife found beside them, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Thempi Khongsai (28), a beautician hailing from Senapati district, while her husband Thangjam Viney Meitei, a grocery store owner hailing from Moirang, Manipur, is currently undergoing treatment at AIIMS Trauma Centre. The couple had been married for three years.
According to investigators, the couple allegedly had a heated argument on Sunday night, after which Khongsai called her father, telling him she had been injured and needed help. Her father then contacted the couple’s landlady, who, upon failing to get a response after repeated knocks, alerted the police through her daughter.
A police team arrived at the scene and forcibly opened the main door, which was locked from inside. “Both were found unconscious in the bathroom, bleeding from their necks. The woman had a deep cut on the back of her neck,” a senior police officer said. Khongsai was declared dead on arrival at the hospital, while Meitei remains under medical observation.
Police have recovered the knife used in the incident and are awaiting forensic and medical reports to determine whether Meitei’s injury was self-inflicted or sustained during the altercation. The post-mortem of the deceased was conducted on Monday evening.
Crime and forensic teams inspected the scene and collected evidence. Police said Meitei has not yet been questioned as he is unfit to record a statement.
Authorities are investigating the case as a suspected instance of domestic violence turned fatal, while awaiting medical and forensic findings to ascertain the sequence of events leading to the tragedy.
