Imphal, October 14: In a major boost to counter-insurgency and law enforcement efforts, security forces on Monday conducted a series of coordinated operations across Churachandpur and Bishnupur districts of Manipur, recovering a large cache of arms, ammunition, and tactical equipment from multiple locations.
According to official sources, the operations were launched following specific intelligence inputs regarding the presence of illegal weapons in the two districts. In Churachandpur, security personnel carried out a search at Nepali Basti under Churachandpur Police Station, where they seized a mix of locally fabricated and military-grade weapons. The recoveries included two single barrel rifles, one country-made mortar (pompi), two grenades, three shells, eight mortar bombs, fifteen AK-47 empty cases, twenty-five live 7.62mm rounds, and two wood-piercing shells.
In a separate operation under Moirang Police Station in Bishnupur district, another cache was recovered from the Keipha Road area. The haul included one .303 sniper rifle with a telescope, one country-made Sten gun, two single barrel rifles, one .32 pistol with magazine, two BP pouches, five BP plates, and one rubber tube.
A third operation at Phubala Mamang Pat, also under Moirang Police Station, led to the recovery of one INSAS light machine gun (LMG) with magazine, one SBBL gun, one Chinese hand grenade, five live 5.56mm rounds, five ballistic cartridges, six 12 bore cartridges, three .303 chargers, one tube launching cylinder, one Baofeng radio set, three bulletproof helmets, four BP plates, and one rubber tube.
