Imphal, October 20: Manipur police chief Rajiv Singh on Sunday emphasised that peaceful dialogue remains the only solution to resolving the ongoing ethnic conflict in the state. Speaking on the sidelines of the 134th Raising Day at the 1st Manipur Rifles parade ground in Imphal, Singh called for cooperation from all communities and stakeholders to restore peace and normalcy.
“These are very challenging times, but we have been trying to tackle them with the best possible strength and with the cooperation of everyone,” Singh said. “Violence, deaths, and injuries have decreased, and although sporadic incidents of arson and firing occur, the security forces are vigilant to ensure nothing escalates.”
The DGP urged communities on both sides to come forward with suggestions and resolve disputes through dialogue, stressing that peaceful engagement is essential for lasting harmony. He also highlighted the police force’s civilian-friendly approach, noting instances where security operations were restrained to avoid harm to innocent civilians.
Singh further outlined the achievements of the Manipur Police over the past year, including the recovery of 3,014 illegal arms and 30,000 rounds of ammunition, the surrender of over 1,000 illegally possessed arms with 15,000 rounds of ammunition, and the seizure of 445 IEDs and 809 hand grenades. In addition, 26 insurgents were detained under the National Security Act during the same period, reflecting the force’s efforts to maintain law and order while minimising civilian harm.
The police chief reiterated the importance of collaborative efforts between security forces and local communities in achieving sustained peace in the state.
