CHANDEL, Oct 28: In a bid to promote self-reliance and livelihood generation among women in remote border areas, the Assam Rifles on Monday distributed foot-pedal sewing machines to women from New Samtal, Yangnomphai, and Aivomjang villages in Chandel District, Manipur.
The initiative, undertaken in response to local requests for economic assistance, aims to equip women with the skills and resources to engage in sustainable income-generating activities from their homes. New Samtal was identified as the focal point of the project.
According to a statement from the Assam Rifles, “The sewing machines will enable women to acquire household tailoring skills and pursue income-generating activities from home, contributing to long-term empowerment and self-sufficiency.”
