SENAPATI, Oct 31: The Naga People’s Organisation (NPO), has strongly condemned and expressed deep concerned over the repeated incidents that occurred at Daili Village, particularly the incident occurred on October 29 and 30, coinciding with the observance of Genna — a solemn day declared by the United Naga Council (UNC) in honour of the historic civic reception of Eno Thuingaleng Muivah, the Hon’ble Ato Kilonser of the GPRN.
In a press release issued on Friday, the NPO said that certain individuals were reportedly seen driving vehicles at excessive speed, moving up and down repeatedly while shouting provocative slogans such as “We demand Kuki land” and “We want Kuki land.” They further went to the extent of damaging the poster of our Hon’ble AtoKilonser displayed in the village not once, but twice. In addition, they detonated a huge firecracker, causing panic among the villagers and severe mental distress, particularly to the elderly and young children.
“Such acts are not only irresponsible and irrational but also amount to deliberate provocation and a direct affront to the sentiments of the Naga people. The NPO views these actions as a calculated attempt to insult and dishonour our living legendary leader and to disturb the peaceful coexistence of communities in the area,” the press release read.
Calling the incidents “deeply regrettable,” the NPO asserted that it would “no longer tolerate such behaviour under any circumstances” and demanded immediate action from leaders of the concerned community.
“The responsible leaders of the concerned community take immediate and decisive action to identify and apprehend all individuals involved in these incidents and produce them before the NPO Office within three (3) days from the date of this press release,” the statement read.
Issuing a stern warning, the organisation cautioned that failure to comply would compel it to take “appropriate measures to safeguard the dignity and safety of the Naga people,” even if such steps risk straining communal harmony.
