IMPHAL, Nov 6: Tribal student bodies in Manipur’s Churachandpur district on Thursday said it will be compelled to boycott “biased” National Investigating Agencies if any student and youth leaders from the Kuki Zo community are summoned in the future.
In a joint press statement, Zomi Students Federation, Kuki Students Organisation and the Hmar Students Association said incidents in recent months indicate a push towards suppressing voices including “selective targeting of innocent society leaders (leaders of student organisations) by the National Investigation Agency.”
Strongly condemning the alleged selective targeting of unarmed civilian leaders “who have nothing to do with NIA cases or with cases that involve threats to national security,” the joint student bodies claimed of “high degree” of biasedness against the Kuki Zo people in the filing and handling of cases.
The student bodies also said anti national activities are being carried out in Imphal valley and questioned lack of progress in several investigation involving attacks on the community.
“Should student and youth leaders be summoned in the future, a boycott of the biased agencies will be carried out” said the student body stating they are law abiding citizens of the country.
The student bodies also claimed of “biased approach” in counter insurgency operations.
