DIMAPUR, Nov 18: The Nagaland government formally partnered with the United Kingdom for the Hornbill Festival 2025 following the signing of an agreement between Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and Alison Barrett MBE, Country Director India, British Council, in New Delhi on Monday. The event was witnessed by British High Commissioner to India, Lindy Cameron CB OBE, and senior officials from both sides.
The agreement reinforces ongoing collaboration to promote cultural exchange, support creative talent, and enhance global visibility for Nagaland’s rich cultural heritage. The British Council, working with the British Deputy High Commission in Kolkata, is set to curate impactful programming for the festival.
As part of this year’s line-up, Scottish artist Ruairidh Maclean (RuMac) will perform on December 2. “Nagaland is honoured to welcome the United Kingdom as our Country Partner. This partnership reflects our shared values and commitment to cultural exchange and collaboration,” said CM Rio, noting that the UK’s involvement will elevate the festival and foster cooperation in culture, tourism, education, and enterprise.
British High Commissioner Lindy Cameron highlighted the deep cultural ties between the UK and India, adding, “It is fantastic to follow up last year’s Welsh-Naga-Khasi performances with Scottish music this year.”
