GUWAHATI, Nov 25: The Judicial Commission probing the circumstances leading to the death of celebrated singer Zubeen Garg has extended the deadline for filing affidavits by 21 days, with the new submission date now set for December 12. The extension comes in response to multiple requests and a significant number of pending affidavits, officials said on Monday.
Earlier, November 21 marked the end of the initial deadline for stakeholders to file sworn statements. The Commission stated that the extension will allow “comprehensive participation” from all individuals and organisations connected to the case.
Formed to scrutinise events surrounding the singer’s sudden demise, the Commission is examining possible lapses, negligence, or foul play.
Meanwhile, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has stepped up its inquiry by sending two bags belonging to Zubeen Garg for forensic examination. The trolley bag and handbag were seized from his Kahilipara residence and transferred to a forensic laboratory after being retrieved from the CID office. Sources said Zubeen had carried these bags during his recent trip to Singapore, and investigators hope they may contain crucial leads.
