AIZAWL, Dec 2: In a landmark achievement in Mizoram’s anti-narcotics campaign, a rare joint operation involving local residents, security forces and state agencies led to the seizure of nearly 4 kg of methamphetamine tablets on the outskirts of Aizawl.
The coordinated operation—carried out by the Excise & Narcotics Department, the Falkawn Joint Action Committee (JAC) and the Field Intelligence Unit (FIU) of the Assam Rifles—resulted in the recovery of 3 kg and 99 grams of methamphetamine, estimated to be around 40,000 tablets, near the gate of the Zoram Medical Center & Hospital (ZMC&H) at Falkawn.
Officials identified the arrested individuals as Malsawmthara (30), a native of Tahan, Myanmar currently staying at Tuikhurhlu, and Jerry Lalruatkima (27) of Electric Veng, Aizawl, presently residing at the ZMC&H quarters. A Ford Ecosport (MZ01-N-1132) suspected to have been used in transporting the drugs was also seized.
Authorities believe the synthetic drug consignment was meant for circulation within Mizoram. Both accused have been booked under the Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, and further investigation is ongoing.
Officials hailed the operation as a powerful example of community participation strengthening the state’s fight against drug trafficking, urging continued vigilance and cooperation to curb the rising synthetic drug menace.
