AIZAWL, Dec 2: Mizoram’s growing prominence in the country’s agri-sector received a major boost as the Mizoram Agricultural Marketing Board (MAMB) formally acknowledged NITI Aayog’s declaration of the state as the Ginger Capital of India. The announcement came during a high-level review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Monday.

Officials said the recognition reflects the state’s rapid rise as a major ginger-producing hub, known for superior quality, rich aroma and high oleoresin content—attributes that have drawn national-level interest from investors and ministries.

The Chief Minister reviewed the state’s progress following the Stakeholders’ Consultation for Mizoram Ginger Produce held in New Delhi on November 24, one of the largest-ever engagements dedicated to a Mizoram-centric agricultural agenda. Over 60 investors and representatives from multiple Central Ministries participated, during which NITI Aayog formally endorsed Mizoram’s surge in ginger production.

MAMB reported that over 3.38 crore kg of ginger has been procured this year, with Rs 137.72 crore already disbursed to farmers as support price. The Board reaffirmed its commitment to organic farming and safe, high-quality production.

To further strengthen market access, MAMB announced a Ginger Buyer–Seller Meet on December 5–6 at Aijal Club and confirmed that the state’s new Ginger Processing Unit at Sairang will be inaugurated on January 12, 2026—marking a major step toward value addition and export readiness.

With growing demand for sliced-dry ginger, MAMB will procure new local drying technologies, including Rapchung and Tapchhak systems, under the Handholding Scheme.

The government also released the procurement calendar for 2026, covering ginger, turmeric, Mizo chillies and Buhhum paddy. Meanwhile, ZOHANDCO will exclusively purchase all dry broomsticks in the next harvest season at government-approved rates, with private traders required to secure Certificates of Origin and Transit Passes.
