IMPHAL, Dec 5: Manipur police have arrested three militants of a banned group which had recently issued threats to participants of the recently concluded Sangai festival, a police statement informed.
Police also said five separate cases have been registered in connection with threats to Sangai festival participants by G 5, an alliance of five banned outfits.
Three cadres of G-5 have been arrested from Imphal West and Imphal East districts and further investigations are underway to identify and take necessary legal action against those who were involved in issuing threats, police said.
G -5, consisting of UNLF, KCP, KYKL, PREPAK, PREPAK (PRO), had imposed a one year ban on any performance on four drama troupes for participating in the Sangai festival. The group also asked all stall owners and participants to issue a public apology before December 10.
Manipur police also assured that strict action will be taken against any attempt to intimidate or disrupt cultural activities and public events in the state.
