IMPHAL, Dec 11: Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla has extended heartfelt greetings to the people of the state on the eve of Nupi Lal Day, which will be observed on December 12 to honour the historic women-led movements of 1904 and 1939.
In his message, the Governor described Nupi Lal — or Nupilan Numit — as a powerful symbol of Manipuri women’s courage, resilience and patriotism. He said the two movements remain defining moments in the state’s history, where women rose united against colonial injustice and economic exploitation.
Calling the observance a reminder of women’s leadership in safeguarding society, Bhalla said the “brave mothers of Manipur transformed their pain into courage,” inspiring future generations with their determination and social consciousness.
He emphasised that the legacy of Nupi Lal underscores the importance of respecting and empowering women for a progressive society. Urging citizens to uphold the values demonstrated by the women of those movements, the Governor appealed for collective efforts toward peace, harmony and prosperity in Manipur.
