He said a series of programmes and schemes have been undertaken for the upliftment of tribal communities, especially the Maram tribe. President Murmu Calls for Peace, Understanding and Reconciliation

Addressing the gathering, President Murmu expressed her happiness to be in a district with a proud tribal heritage. She noted that the day also marked Nupi Lal Memorial Day, a prime example of the female voice in bringing about positive social change.

She lauded Manipur’s rich cultural diversity and said she was pleased to see the same reflected in Senapati. “I am told that this district is home to several tribes. I have attended a reception at Taphou Naga village where I was accorded a warm welcome by representatives of tribal communities of the district. I also interacted with the internally displaced persons,” she said.

The President highlighted that the Maram community is recognised as a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group and is the only PVTG in Manipur. “The unique culture and tradition of the Maram tribe contributes significantly to India’s tribal diversity,” she said.

Speaking on development interventions, she said that under PM JANMAN, several initiatives have been launched specifically to uplift PVTGs through enhanced access to healthcare, expansion of school education, housing support, livelihood promotion and skill development in remote habitations.

President Murmu also said that the Government of India is working closely with local leaders, civil societies and communities to ensure development in Manipur is inclusive and sustainable. She said the Centre is committed to ensuring that development reaches every corner of the country, with special attention to remote tribal regions. In recent years, she noted, the hill districts of Manipur have benefitted from focused investments in road and bridge connectivity—including national highways—rural roads, healthcare, education, drinking water and electricity supply.

The President also inaugurated and laid foundation stones for several projects in the district. She also expressed confidence that the projects would strengthen education, healthcare, security and community infrastructure. She added that their completion would improve the lives of thousands of families and bring essential services closer to remote communities.

“Manipur’s strength lies in its diversity, its culture, languages and traditions. The hills and valley have always complimented each other, like two sides of the same beautiful land,” she said.

President Murmu urged all communities to continue supporting efforts for peace, understanding and reconciliation. She acknowledged the aspirations of the people and said, “I understand with total empathy your concerns and desires for a peaceful and prosperous future.” She reaffirmed the Government of India’s commitment to the well-being and progress of the people of Manipur, including those in remote regions.

“Let us continue working together for a peaceful and prosperous Manipur,” she concluded.
