NEW DELHI, Dec 14: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday asserted that his party would work with “satya (truth) and non-violence” to remove what he termed the “Narendra Modi-RSS government” from power, launching a sharp attack on the BJP and the Election Commission during the ‘Vote Chor Gaddi Chhod’ rally at Ramlila Maidan.
Addressing party supporters, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha accused the ruling party of indulging in “vote chori” while wielding state power. He also named Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, alleging that the poll panel was acting in favour of the BJP.
Gandhi claimed that alleged cash transfers of ₹10,000 during elections went unchecked by the Election Commission, which, he said, reflected institutional bias. “In the fight between truth and untruth, the Election Commission is standing with the BJP government,” he alleged.
Taking aim at recent legal changes, Gandhi said the Modi government had brought a law granting immunity to Election Commissioners. He vowed that a future Congress government would amend the law retrospectively and take action against those responsible for undermining democratic processes.
While acknowledging that change may take time, Gandhi expressed confidence that truth would prevail. “They have satta (power), but we have satya (truth). We will work with truth and non-violence to defeat Modi and Shah,” he said, reiterating the Congress party’s commitment to restoring democratic accountability.
