IMPHAL, Dec 17: Manipur police on Wednesday evening said an FIR has been registered in connection with gun firing incident by “Kuki armed groups” in Manipur’s Bishnupur district.
Police also said one IED along with six local made mortars “Pumpi” were recovered in follow up operations at Kangvai, a few kilometres from Phougakchao Ikhai.
In a statement, police said “in connection with the indiscriminate firing by Kuki armed groups at Torbung last night, FIR has been registered for further investigation in this regard. Security has been beefed up in and around the area, and joint security forces are carrying out intensive combing operations and area domination to ensure the safety of the public.”
It said “DIG concerned and other senior police officers visited the site of the incident and took stock of the prevailing situation.”
One IED weighing 3 kgs, one long range improvised pumpi, four medium range improvised pumpi, one medium range barrel blasted improvised pumpi, one single barrel firearm and 17 sempty cases have been recovered.
Police also said “the recovered IED was safely disposed of by the Bomb Disposal Squad” and security in the area has been tightened and under strict watch.
