IMPHAL, Jan 5: AICC in charge of Manipur Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka on Monday said congress will launch 45 days protest all over the country starting from January 10 to demand the repeal of VB-G RAM G Act.
Ulaka told reporters at Congress Bhavan, “in the recent parliament session, a Bill was suddenly introduced called Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G RAM G) Act, 2025.. They came up with a bill which completely replaced MGNREGA which was launched by UPA in 2005.”
Ulaka continued “MGNREGA is supposed to be sponsored 90 pc by the central govt and 10 pc by the state government. The new Act will change the funding pattern making it 60 pc by central and 40 pc by the state government. I am sure many state governments are facing financial distress and wont be able to support this programme.”
“We had a CWC meeting on December 27 and unanimously decided that we will have 45 days protest all over the country culminating into zonal wise rallies and force the government to repeal this draconian Act” Ulaka added.
He said “we are launching this MGNREGA Bachao Sangram. The duration is from January 10 to February 25. They are always changing the name of father of the nation, which is very unfortunate and we condemn it.”
He also appealed to the CSOs, intellectuals and youths of Manipur to join in this campaign.
