Senapati: Security Forces Seize Over 11 kg Opium on NH-2, One Arrested

SENAPATI, Jan 7: Security forces arrested one person and seized over 11 kg of suspected opium during a routine frisking and checking operation along National Highway-2 in Senapati district on January 6.

According to police, a joint team of the Special Operations Team (SOT) and D-78 CRPF intercepted a Bolero vehicle at Nepali Khuti under Senapati Police Station at around 4:30 pm. During a thorough search of the vehicle, suspected opium was found concealed inside the spare tyre.

The recovered substance was weighed in the presence of an Executive Magistrate and found to be 11.264 kg. The accused has been identified as Nantu Deb (44), a resident of Mahishashan Village in Karimganj district of Assam.

Police said that the contraband, along with the Bolero vehicle bearing registration number AS-01-DS-9963 and two mobile phones, were seized as per legal procedures. The arrested individual has been handed over to Senapati Police Station for further investigation and legal action.
