FIFA World Cup Trophy to Make Northeast Debut in Guwahati on January 13

GUWAHATI, Jan 7: The FIFA World Cup Trophy will arrive in Guwahati on January 13, marking its first-ever visit to the Northeast and its return to India after more than 12 years.

The Guwahati showcase is part of the sixth FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026, with the city chosen as India’s debut venue during the global tour.

Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Nandita Gorlosa said special arrangements are being made in strict adherence to FIFA protocols. “This has never happened here before. For Assam and the Northeast, this is a first,” she said, adding that the Trophy will be welcomed with Assamese traditions and Indian culture under tight security.

The Trophy will be flown into Guwahati on January 13 and transported directly to the Barsapara Stadium, where it will be officially unveiled by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at around 8.30 pm.

The programme, beginning at 3 pm, will feature cultural and musical performances, including Coke Studio sessions, with artistes such as Shankuraj Konwar, Rito Riba and Anup Jain. Entry to the event will be free.

The Trophy Tour, jointly organised by FIFA and The Coca-Cola Company, began on January 3, 2026, in Riyadh and will cover 30 FIFA member associations across 75 stops worldwide.
