IMPHAL, Jan 14: Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Tuesday called for sustained efforts to honour the sacrifices of Armed Forces veterans and ensure their welfare, while addressing the Armed Forces Veterans’ Day celebration held at the Palace Auditorium of the Manipur State Film Development Society in Imphal.
During the programme, the Governor felicitated distinguished and gallantry award–winning veterans along with Veer Naris, recognising their exemplary service, courage and lifelong contribution to the nation.
In his address, Ajay Kumar Bhalla lauded the steadfast dedication of the Armed Forces and conveyed the nation’s enduring gratitude to veterans, ex-servicemen and their families. He said Armed Forces Veterans’ Day serves as a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made by military personnel in safeguarding India’s sovereignty, unity and democratic values.
Highlighting Manipur’s rich military legacy, the Governor praised the people of the state for their outstanding contribution to India’s defence, particularly in protecting the nation’s borders and strengthening national security. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the welfare of serving personnel, ex-servicemen and Veer Naris through initiatives related to healthcare, pensions, resettlement and skill development.
Member of the Legislative Assembly Thokchom Biswajit Singh, who also addressed the gathering, said the commemoration was held in the august presence of the Governor, Chief Secretary Dr Puneet Kumar Goel and other dignitaries.
The event was attended by Chief Secretary Dr Puneet Kumar Goel, Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh, senior civil and police officers, senior officers of the Armed Forces and paramilitary forces, as well as a large number of veterans and ex-servicemen.
