SENAPATI, Jan 20: The Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) has strongly rejected claims by Kuki refugee groups that the so-called German Road and Tiger Road are “lifelines” for their community, stating that such assertions are misleading and infringe upon the historical, traditional and customary rights of the Zeliangrong Inpui Naga people.

In a press communiqué issued by its Ministry of Information and Publicity on Tuesday, the ZUF said it does not recognise or permit the construction or use of these roads within Zeliangrong Inpui traditional and ancestral territory without due consent and lawful authorisation.

The ZUF expressed serious concern over the establishment of the roads, alleging that they are widely perceived to facilitate illegal activities such as drug trafficking, arms smuggling and the influx of undocumented immigrants. According to the ZUF, these developments pose a direct threat to indigenous land, security and social stability in the region.

The ZUF also urged Central and State security forces to maintain strict neutrality and professionalism in the discharge of their duties. It cautioned that any form of nexus or association with Kuki underground groups would be unacceptable and could escalate tensions, particularly during incidents involving armed confrontation.

Reiterating its stand against narcotics, the Front reaffirmed its firm opposition to illegal poppy cultivation within Zeliangrong Inpui territory, warning that individuals found engaged in poppy cultivation or harvesting would be dealt with strictly.

The Zeliangrong United Front said it remains committed to the protection of indigenous rights and ancestral land, and to the pursuit of lasting peace through lawful and constitutional means.
