Manipur central jail warder arrested for facilitating unauthorised use of phones to inmates

IMPHAL, Feb 19: Manipur police have arrested a 35 year old warder in Manipur central jail who had been illegally facilitating unauthorised use of mobile phone to inmates, a police statement informed on Thursday.

The accused had also established financial transactions within the jail premises by inmates through his UPI account.

Police said Sahid Shah (35) of Kairang Mayai Leikai had been illegally facilitating unauthorized use of mobile phones to inmates, including those imprisoned under UAP (Act) to make and receive phone calls at Manipur central jail at Sajiwa in Imphal East district.

Shah worked as a warder at the jail and was arrested on Wednesday.

Multiple mobile phones and SIM cards have been seized and investigation so far established financial transactions from within the jail premises by inmates through the UPI account of the arrestee.

Further investigation is in progress to ascertain the full extent of involvement and to identify other persons connected with the FIR case registered at Heingang-PS, Imphal East district.
