Two arrested in Tengnoupal for smuggling in 24 exotic mountain goats from Myanmar

IMPHAL, Feb 24: Security forces arrested two persons in Manipur’s Tengnoupal district for illegally smuggling in 24 wild mountain goats from Myanmar, a police statement said on Tuesday.

Police said on Sunday, “security forces intercepted a four-wheeler at Tengnoupal which was smuggling 24 Ibex (wild mountain goats) from Myanmar towards Pallel.”

“The driver and the occupant of the DI vehicle who were smuggling the exotic species of mountain goats that are protected under the Wildlife Protection Act have been arrested” police said.

The arrested have been identified as Md Kalim (35) and Md Sabir Khan (19), from Kakching and Thoubal districts respectively.

The arrested persons along with the seized wild mountain goats and the DI vehicle have been handed over to the Forest department, police said.
