Union Home Minister Amit Shah, in a confident statement on Friday, announced that Naxalism will be completely eradicated from India within the next 1 to 1.5 years. Speaking during an interaction with victims of Naxal violence from Chhattisgarh, Shah affirmed the government’s commitment to eliminating both Naxalism and its ideology to bring lasting peace.

Shah highlighted the Narendra Modi government’s success in curbing Naxalism across the country, with only four districts in Bastar still affected. He assured that Naxalism would be wiped out well before the set target date of March 31, 2026.

Acknowledging the past hardships caused by Naxal violence, Shah expressed regret but promised to protect innocent people from future suffering. He emphasized the Centre’s support in developing infrastructure in Chhattisgarh, including projects under the PM Awas Yojana and improved sanitation. The Home Ministry will also oversee health services linked to the Yojana, working alongside the state government to address the Naxal issue comprehensively.

Shah urged Naxal insurgents to surrender and reintegrate into society, pointing to similar efforts in Kashmir where militants have returned to the mainstream. He hinted at the possibility of launching a campaign to encourage Naxals to lay down their arms and choose peace.

“If you abandon violence, you can return to the mainstream—just as many in Kashmir have done. If not, we will start a campaign to guide you in that direction,” Shah said.
