Delaware, Sept 22: Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed India’s vision of “One Earth, One Health” by announcing a contribution of $7.5 million for sampling kits, detection kits, and vaccines as part of the Quad Cancer Moonshot initiative. This pivotal initiative was introduced during the sixth Quad Leaders’ Summit on Saturday, aiming to combat cervical cancer and save lives in the Indo-Pacific region.
During his remarks at the Cancer Moonshot event, Modi expressed appreciation for the Quad nations’ joint commitment to tackling the challenge of cervical cancer. “I heartily congratulate President Biden for organizing this important event. It reflects our shared determination for affordable, accessible, and quality healthcare,” he stated.
Modi highlighted the importance of collaboration in cancer care, advocating for an integrated approach that includes prevention, screening, diagnosis, and treatment to effectively lessen the cancer burden. He pointed out that India is implementing a “very cost-effective” cervical cancer screening program on a large scale and has established the world’s largest health insurance scheme. Additionally, he mentioned the creation of special centers to ensure affordable access to medications.
Furthermore, Modi announced that India has developed its own cervical cancer vaccine and is introducing new treatment protocols utilizing AI. He expressed India’s readiness to share its knowledge and expertise with other nations.
“I am pleased that India will contribute 40 million vaccine doses for Indo-Pacific countries under the GAVI and Quad initiatives. These doses will bring hope to the lives of crores of people,” he said. Modi concluded by emphasizing that when the Quad acts, it is not solely for nations – it is for the people, reflecting the true essence of a human-centric approach.
