At the UN Summit of the Future, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday highlighted India’s commitment to humanity with the theme “One Earth, One Family, One Future.” He pointed out that the country has successfully lifted 250 million people out of poverty, illustrating the effectiveness of sustainable development.
Modi explained that this commitment is evident in initiatives like “One Earth, One Health” and “One Sun, One World, One Grid.” He called for balanced global regulations for technology use and advocated for digital governance that honors national sovereignty. “Digital Public Infrastructure should be a bridge, not a barrier,” he asserted, expressing India’s readiness to share its digital capabilities worldwide.
He also emphasized India’s willingness to share its successes with the Global South, arguing that humanity’s future depends on collective strength rather than conflict. He insisted that discussions about the future must focus on human welfare, food security, and health alongside sustainable development.
Modi stressed the importance of reforming global institutions, citing the African Union’s recent status as a permanent G20 member as a positive step. He addressed ongoing threats to global peace, including terrorism and challenges in cyberspace and outer space, urging that global actions should match ambitious aspirations.
The summit concluded with the adoption of a Pact for the Future, which includes a Global Digital Compact and a Declaration on Future Generations, addressing vital topics such as peace, sustainable development, climate change, digital cooperation, human rights, gender equality, and youth engagement.
