584 NLFT and ATTF Cadres Surrender in Tripura Following Peace Accord

Agartala, Sept 24:  In a major development, 584 militants from the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and the All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) laid down their arms and rejoined the mainstream. This follows a peace agreement signed three weeks ago in New Delhi.

The formal surrender took place on Tuesday at the 7th Battalion of Tripura State Rifles in Jampuijala, Sepahijala District. Key NLFT and ATTF leaders, including Biswa Mohan Debbarma, Parimal Debbarma, Prasenjit Debbarma, and Alindra Debbarma, handed over their weapons to Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha. The event was attended by Director General of Police (DGP) Amitabh Ranjan, Chief Secretary JK Sinha, and other senior officials.

During the event, Chief Minister Dr. Saha emphasized that with the signing of this peace accord, Tripura is now “free from terrorism,” highlighting the importance of peace for the state’s progress. He praised Prime Minister Modi’s efforts, which have resulted in 12 peace agreements across the Northeast, including three in Tripura.

“Development cannot happen without peace,” Dr. Saha said, expressing confidence that the state and central governments’ various schemes will improve the lives of Janajati communities. He welcomed the former insurgents, acknowledging the difficulties they faced, and encouraged unity and growth for the state.

The peace accord, signed on September 4 in Delhi, involved Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Saha, MP Biplab Kumar Deb, Royal Scion Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarman, and other top officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Tripura Government.
