Driver Assaulted Near Sekmai Gas Plant by Alleged UNLF Members

Senapati, Sept 27:   In a disturbing incident on September 25, 2024, around 6 PM, Mr. Wilubou Marenmai, a driver for Thomson Gas Agency from Tamenglong, was violently assaulted by two individuals who claimed to be members of the United National Liberation Front (UNLF). The attack took place near the Sekmai gas plant while Mr. Marenmai was waiting for his truck to be loaded.

The assailants approached Mr. Marenmai and, after inquiring about his background and learning he was from the Naga-Liangmai community, accused him of supplying ammunition to Kukis. One of the attackers then punched Mr. Marenmai in the face, resulting in the loss of one tooth and severe damage to two others.

The Liangmai Naga Katimai Ruangdi, Manipur (LNKRM) has expressed protound outrage over the assault. They condemned the attack, highlighting that the Liangmai community was falsely accused of colluding with Kukis and involvement in arms supply. The LNKRM has called on the Government of Manipur to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the incident, ensure the safety of all citizens, and address the situation promptly to prevent further disturbances.

The Rongmei Naga Student’s Organisation Manipur, Tamenglong (RNSOM-TL) also condemned the attack and urged the state government to swiftly apprehend the perpetrators. They emphasized that any delay in action would not be tolerated.

Additionally, The Liangmai Naga Council, Eastern Zone (LNC-EZ) unequivocally condemned the attack, describing it as a grave threat to the peace and security of the Liangmai Naga people. They criticized the targeting of innocent civilians and called for urgent measures to protect the Naga community. The LNC-EZ demanded that law enforcement apprehend the attackers within two days and ensure they face justice. They urged Naga citizens to violence and lawlessness affecting their community.
