The Israeli military claimed on Saturday that it had killed Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah in an airstrike on the group’s central headquarters in southern Beirut, which took place a day earlier. Another high-ranking Hezbollah official, Ali Karaki, was also reported killed.
Israeli army spokesperson Avichay Adraee stated, “Hassan Nasrallah will no longer be able to terrorize the world,” highlighting the military’s objective to disrupt Hezbollah’s activities. The airstrike specifically targeted an underground command center where Nasrallah and other leaders were allegedly coordinating operations against Israel.
As of Saturday morning, Hezbollah had not confirmed Nasrallah’s status. Early reports from sources close to the group suggested he was alive, with Iran’s Tasnim news agency stating he was safe. A senior Iranian security official noted that Tehran was verifying his condition.
This attack represents a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, raising concerns about the possibility of a wider regional confrontation. Following the initial strike, Israel conducted further airstrikes in Beirut’s southern suburbs and other areas of Lebanon.
