Airtel Partners with SpaceX to Bring Starlink Internet to India

NEW DELHI, March 11: Airtel has entered into a partnership with SpaceX to introduce Starlink’s satellite internet service in India, a move that could significantly expand internet access across the country. The deal, however, is contingent on SpaceX receiving regulatory approval to offer Starlink services in India.

This collaboration between Airtel and SpaceX will explore multiple ways to work together, including the possibility of Airtel selling Starlink equipment in its stores. Airtel plans to offer Starlink’s high-speed internet services to businesses and communities, especially those in remote areas with limited or no connectivity. Additionally, both companies aim to leverage Starlink to bring internet access to rural schools, health centers, and other underconnected areas across India.

Airtel has previously collaborated with Eutelsat OneWeb for satellite internet services, and the addition of Starlink will further strengthen Airtel’s network, particularly in rural and underserved regions. The partnership will provide more options for high-speed internet in areas where traditional infrastructure is lacking.

Gwynne Shotwell, President of SpaceX, expressed excitement about the partnership, saying, “We are excited to work with Airtel and unlock the transformative impact Starlink can bring to the people of India. We are constantly amazed by the incredible and inspiring things that people, businesses and organisations do when they are connected via Starlink.”

In response to the news, Airtel shares snapped their six-session losing streak, closing 2.55% higher at Rs 1,641.60. The partnership promises to bring reliable broadband connectivity to millions of people and businesses across India, helping bridge the digital divide in some of the most remote and underserved regions.
