IMPHAL, Dec 24: Former Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla has been appointed as the new Governor of Manipur, a state grappling with ethnic violence since May 2023. The announcement comes as part of a major gubernatorial reshuffle across multiple states, approved by President Droupadi Murmu.
Bhalla takes over from Lakshman Prasad Acharya, who has served as Manipur’s Governor since July 2023. His appointment is seen as a crucial move amid the ongoing unrest in the northeastern state.
In a series of other high-profile appointments, Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan, known for his frequent clashes with the state government, will now serve as the Governor of Bihar. Meanwhile, Bihar Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar will assume the gubernatorial position in Kerala.
Additionally, former Army Chief General Vijay Kumar Singh has been appointed as the Governor of Mizoram, marking his first gubernatorial role. Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati, the outgoing Governor of Mizoram, will now take charge in Odisha, succeeding Raghubar Das, who recently resigned from the position.
