IMPHAL, March 3: The Association of Meiteis in the Americas (AMA) has expressed strong support for the proactive measures announced by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in a recent security review meeting on Manipur.
In a statement, AMA lauded the government’s commitment to ensuring free movement on national highways, cracking down on extortion, expediting the Indo-Myanmar border fencing project, and dismantling the drug trade network. The organization hailed these actions as crucial for restoring normalcy and stability in the state.
However, AMA emphasized the need for a comprehensive disarmament strategy to address the illegal arms issue that has exacerbated violence and disrupted harmony in Manipur. The organization called for a gun-free state, stressing that disarmament is essential to rebuilding trust and restoring law and order. AMA’s statement underscored the importance of creating an environment where the people of Manipur can live without fear.

“The people of Manipur deserve to live without fear. A complete disarmament strategy, alongside the initiatives announced, will pave the way for lasting peace and prosperity,” AMA stated, urging all stakeholders to support efforts aimed at ensuring a stable and secure Manipur.
In related developments, Arambai Tenggol has also welcomed Amit Shah’s directives, including ensuring free movement on roads starting March 8 and speeding up the border fencing process at key entry points along Manipur’s international border. Shah has further warned that strict action will be taken against any individuals attempting to obstruct the government’s peace-building measures.
This security review followed an ultimatum issued by Manipur’s Governor on February 20, calling for the immediate surrender of all illegal and looted weapons.
