Amit Shah Urges LG’s, CM’s to Maintain Strict Vigil Against Anti-National Propaganda On Social Media

NEW DELHI, May 8: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday convened a high-level meeting with Chief Ministers, Chief Secretaries, and Directors General of Police from Indian states bordering Pakistan and Nepal, stressing the urgent need to enhance vigilance against anti-national propaganda and misinformation campaigns—particularly those propagated via social and digital media.

The virtual meeting, held against the backdrop of heightened tensions along the borders, was attended by the Lieutenant Governors of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, as well as the Chief Ministers of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and West Bengal. Senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, including Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan and Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Deka, were also present.

Shah emphasized the need for swift and coordinated action against those spreading misleading or divisive content and urged for stronger collaboration between local administrations, the Army, paramilitary forces, and central agencies. He called for proactive steps to prevent fear-mongering and rumours, emphasizing that a well-informed public is critical to national security.

Highlighting the importance of preparedness, Shah directed states to keep disaster response units—such as the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), civil defence teams, home guards, and the National Cadet Corps (NCC)—on high alert. He underscored the importance of following standard mock drill protocols to ensure readiness in the event of emergencies.

Additionally, the Home Minister called for improved communication networks, the protection of vulnerable sites, and the uninterrupted operation of essential services such as hospitals, fire brigades, and the distribution of critical goods. He also encouraged the involvement of NGOs and civil society groups in disseminating awareness and supporting emergency preparedness initiatives.

In a related development, Shah acknowledged the appreciation expressed by several Chief Ministers for the Indian Armed Forces’ successful execution of Operation Sindoor. The operation, which targeted hostile elements across the borders, was praised as a decisive and effective response to external threats. Leaders commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the armed forces for their leadership and resolve in safeguarding the nation.
