Imphal, July 25: The Arambai Tenggol has extended full support to the Manipur government’s recent directive aimed at curbing illegal immigration in the state. The group hailed the memorandum issued by the Home Department on July 23 as a “decisive step” toward protecting the demographic balance and cultural heritage of indigenous communities.
The directive, issued by Commissioner (Home) N. Ashok Kumar, instructs all Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police to strengthen border vigilance and establish effective mechanisms at international, inter-state, and inter-district boundaries to prevent the influx of undocumented migrants.
In its official statement, Arambai Tenggol commended the government’s initiative, describing it as a long-overdue response to a threat that has deeply affected Manipur’s social, cultural, and security fabric. The organisation reiterated its longstanding call for stricter measures such as the National Register of Citizens (NRC) to identify and deport illegal immigrants.
Offering its full cooperation, Arambai Tenggol pledged the support of its nearly 70,000-strong youth network to assist enforcement agencies with local insights and manpower. “Our goal is to ensure law and order while safeguarding the rights of bonafide citizens,” the statement read.
The group warned that the unchecked entry of illegal immigrants was eroding ancestral lands and endangering the identity of indigenous people, calling for sustained and transparent action at both state and national levels. Expressing faith in the central and state governments, Arambai Tenggol urged for the current momentum to be transformed into a long-term national policy framework to address illegal immigration comprehensively.
