IMPHAL, June 10: Arambai Tenggol has announced the immediate suspension of its 10-day statewide bandh, which had disrupted life across several districts of Manipur. The bandh was called off on Tuesday, with the group stating that it will now shift to other democratic forms of protest to press its demands.

The shutdown was declared following the arrest of Asem Kanan Singh, a leader of Arambai Tenggol, by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on June 7. He was detained at Imphal Airport and transported to Guwahati, where he is being held in connection with multiple criminal cases related to the 2023 ethnic violence in Manipur.

Kanan’s arrest triggered immediate unrest in the Imphal valley, with supporters taking to the streets, burning tyres, digging roads, and staging demonstrations. In response, the government imposed curfews and internet shutdowns across five districts to contain the situation.

The 10-day “total shutdown”, enforced by AT, caused widespread disruption to daily life, including the movement of essential services, transport, and educational institutions.
