GUWAHATI, July 10: In response to the floods caused by relentless rainfall across several Northeastern states, the Indian Army has intensified its humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) efforts under Operation Jal Rahat-2, rescuing 3,820 people and providing essential relief materials in the worst-affected areas of Assam, Nagaland, and Manipur.

According to an official release issued on Thursday, 40 relief columns have been deployed region-wide, spearheaded by Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (North) in close coordination with local civil administrations. So far, the Army has distributed 1,361 food packets, supplied 15,421 water bottles, and extended medical aid to 2,095 people.

In Assam, the Army activated relief operations in the upper districts where the Dhansiri River in Golaghat district breached danger levels. While water levels have started receding, Army personnel remain on high alert to respond to any further emergencies.

In Nagaland, the Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur formally requested Army support for immediate relief in Singrijan Colony, one of the worst-hit areas. The Army quickly deployed an Engineer Task Force (ETF), though a verbal de-requisition was later received. Nonetheless, resources remain mobilized through the Flood Relief Control Centre at HQ IGAR (North), and troops stand ready for further intervention.

Meanwhile, in Manipur, where the Nambol River flowing through Imphal West and Bishnupur districts has crossed the danger mark, the Army continues relief efforts despite receding water levels. Operations are being carried out in close coordination with civil authorities.

The Indian Army’s rapid deployment and coordination have proved critical in managing this large-scale natural disaster across multiple states in the Northeast. The situation remains under close watch as further rainfall could exacerbate the already precarious conditions.
