GUWAHATI, Nov 1: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched a sharp attack on Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi, alleging that he is a ‘Pakistani agent’ planted by foreign powers to influence Indian politics.

Addressing reporters, Sarma said, “Gaurav Gogoi is purely a Pakistani agent. He has been planted by foreign powers in India. If he has the courage, he should file a defamation case against me.” The Chief Minister asserted that he had “100 percent proof” of Gogoi’s alleged links with Pakistan, though he declined to disclose details at the moment.

“I have all the evidence. Once I make it public, everyone will understand his connections. There is an election going on — otherwise, I would have taken stricter action. If I act now, people will say it’s politically motivated,” Sarma added.

Reiterating his claims, the Chief Minister said, “Some may think we have no documents, but I know what I have. I will act at the right time. As Chief Minister, I am saying he is a 100 percent planted person.”

He further hinted that his government’s restraint was deliberate, citing the ongoing public attention on the Zubeen Garg case. “I am not holding a press conference now because people will accuse us of diverting attention from the Zubeen Garg case,” Sarma said.

Later, taking to X (formerly Twitter), Sarma reiterated his remarks, saying, “Assam Police’s SIT submitted its report on 10th September. The Assam Congress President is a compromised individual. We will reveal the facts at the right time. Even he knows the truth, which is why he will not pursue defamation against us.”
