GUWAHATI, May 20: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday escalated his accusations against Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, demanding that Gogoi publicly address his recent visit to Pakistan. Sarma alleged that Gogoi stayed in Pakistan for 15 days without obtaining permission from the Centre or the state government and questioned why Gogoi has avoided commenting on the matter.

Sarma further questioned why a Special Investigation Team (SIT) needs to investigate Gogoi’s visit and raised concerns about the citizenship of the Congress MP’s children. “If he issues a public statement on these issues, we can close the whole chapter easily,” Sarma said.

The Chief Minister vowed to reveal significant details by September 10, urging the public to be patient until then. He reiterated his earlier explosive claim that Gogoi visited Pakistan on the invitation of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and had undergone “training” there. Sarma added that the visit was connected to Gogoi’s opposition to the Rafale jet purchase.

Sarma boldly declared he would resign if proven wrong, stating, “If even a single word of mine is proved wrong, I will resign from the post of Chief Minister.” He also claimed possession of a document from the Pakistan Home Department substantiating Gogoi’s visit and alleged that Gogoi’s wife maintains close ties with the Pakistan Army.

While Sarma has labeled Gogoi a “Pakistani sympathiser” in earlier statements, no official action has yet been taken against the Congress MP. The controversy continues to stir political tensions in Assam and beyond.
