GUWAHATI, June 13: In response to escalating communal tensions in Dhubri, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has issued a strict “shoot-at-sight” order to curb unrest following the discovery of what appeared to be a cow’s head, allegedly beef, inside a Hanuman temple. The incident has triggered widespread outrage and fears of communal violence in the sensitive border district.
CM Sarma arrived in Dhubri at around 11 am on Friday and immediately convened a high-level emergency meeting with senior officials of the district administration and police at the Circuit House. Security was tightened across key locations in the town ahead of his visit.
Speaking to the media after the review, Sarma confirmed that the shoot-at-sight order would be implemented in Dhubri town beginning tonight. “We will take immediate and decisive action against anyone involved in any unlawful activity, including stone-pelting and attempts to incite violence,” he declared.
Law enforcement agencies have been instructed to arrest all known troublemakers without delay. CM Sarma also warned of “fundamentalist threats” allegedly coming from across the Bangladesh border and accused external elements of attempting to destabilize the region. “I will not let such elements disrupt the peace in Dhubri,” he said firmly.
In a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the Chief Minister elaborated on the situation:
“What transpired in Dhubri during Bakri Eid and how are we responding to the situation. We are fully committed to ensure enforcement of Law and Order in the district and defeat all communal forces.”
He further alleged the emergence of a “new beef mafia” in Dhubri, stating that thousands of cattle had been procured just ahead of Eid. He promised swift and strict action against all involved in the incident and urged citizens to maintain peace.
The district remains on high alert as authorities brace for any potential fallout.
