GUWAHATI, Dec 4: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday chaired a high-level meeting to review preparations ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two-day visit to the state beginning December 20, calling it a “new wave of development” for Assam.
During the visit, PM Modi will inaugurate the new terminal building of the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport and unveil a statue of Assam’s first Chief Minister, Gopinath Bordoloi, at Borjhar. He is also scheduled to address a public rally in Guwahati.
Later, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for a major brownfield ammonia–urea complex at Namrup, with a proposed annual capacity of 12.7 lakh metric tonnes, followed by another public meeting.
The Chief Minister reviewed logistical arrangements for both Guwahati and Namrup events, directing senior officials to ensure seamless coordination for the programmes. Industries Minister Bimal Bora, MLA Taranga Gogoi, district commissioners of Kamrup and Dibrugarh, and AVFCCL MD S. P. Mahanta joined the meeting, along with Chief Secretary Ravi Kota and DGP Harmeet Singh.
Sarma said Assam is “fully prepared” to welcome the Prime Minister and showcase the state’s ongoing development push.
