Imphal, July 24: In a major crackdown against illegal activities, the Assam Rifles has carried out two significant operations in Manipur.
In the first operation, Assam Rifles personnel seized a massive consignment of illicit liquor valued at approximately ₹1 crore along National Highway-37 near Awangkhul in Tamenglong district. Acting on specific inputs, the paramilitary force intercepted a vehicle and recovered 1,430 cases containing over 32,000 bottles and cans of assorted alcoholic beverages. The confiscated consignment, along with the individuals involved, was handed over to local police for further legal action. The Assam Rifles reiterated its resolve to curb illegal trade routes that threaten peace and security in the region.

Meanwhile, in a separate operation on July 22, two active cadres of the proscribed People’s Liberation Army (PLA) were apprehended near the Indo-Myanmar border in Tengnoupal district. The arrests took place during a routine patrol along the international border pillars. Upon noticing suspicious movement, the patrolling unit challenged the suspects, who attempted to flee into the dense forest. A swift cordon and search operation led to their capture. The detainees have been identified as Thingnam Amujao Singh and Kanjam Motea Meitei. Both have been handed over to the police for further investigation.
These operations underscore the Assam Rifles’ ongoing commitment to counter-insurgency, anti-smuggling efforts, and ensuring stability across the sensitive border regions of Manipur.
