SENAPATI, Feb 4: The Assam Rifles kicked off the much-awaited Lt Col Robert TA Memorial Open Football Tournament on Tuesday, with a grand ceremony at the Senapati Astro Turf Ground in Manipur. The tournament, which serves as a tribute to the late Lt Col Robert TA, celebrated his legacy and his deep passion for sports, especially football.
The opening ceremony was marked by an impressive pipe band display, the unveiling of the tournament trophy, and the launch of the official theme song. The vibrant event featured a ceremonial kick-off, followed by lively cultural and jazz band performances, creating an electrifying atmosphere for the players and spectators. The ceremony was graced by the Deputy Inspector General of 22 Sector Assam Rifles, along with several distinguished civilian dignitaries.

This year’s tournament, organized by Assam Rifles, will see participation from 18 teams representing different districts of Manipur. These teams will compete in a display of sportsmanship and excellence, showcasing the spirit of football at the grassroots level.
