IMPHAL, March 5: The Assam Rifles seized a massive drug consignment worth Rs 15.4 crore in Thingkangphai village, located in Churachandpur district of Manipur. One suspect, identified as 44-year-old Thangsuanman from M Tanglian village, was arrested in connection with the drug haul.
The operation was launched by the Assam Rifles on March 3, 2025, under the supervision of the Headquarter Inspector General Assam Rifles (South), based on specific intelligence regarding drug trafficking activities in the area. The Assam Rifles acted swiftly to apprehend the suspects and seize the illicit drugs.
A statement from the Assam Rifles confirmed that the suspect was caught red-handed late on the night of March 3, 2025, as he attempted to complete a drug deal in a white Mahindra Bolero vehicle. Upon searching the vehicle, authorities discovered approximately 1.5 kg of suspected heroin, which was packaged in 132 soap cases. The total estimated value of the drugs was Rs 15.4 crore.
The drugs and the apprehended vehicle were promptly handed over to the Churachandpur Police Station for further investigation. The authorities continue their efforts to trace other individuals involved in the drug trafficking network.
