IMPHAL, May 7: In a significant anti-narcotics operation, Assam Rifles, under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South), seized heroin worth Rs. 82 lakh in Manipur’s Tengnoupal District on May 5, 2025. The operation was conducted based on credible intelligence inputs regarding the trafficking of contraband from the border town of Moreh.
Acting swiftly, Assam Rifles personnel established Mobile Vehicle Check Posts (MVCP) near the India Reserve Battalion (IRB) location, in coordination with the Tengnoupal Police. Two Swift Dzire vehicles, suspected of transporting illegal drugs, were intercepted during the operation.
A sniffer dog from the Assam Rifles unit was deployed to assist in the search, and it confirmed the presence of narcotics. The vehicles were then taken to Tengnoupal Police Station, where a thorough inspection led to the recovery of 19 soap cases containing suspected heroin. The contraband weighed 205 grams and is estimated to be worth Rs. 82,00,000 (82 lakh) in the illegal drug market.
One individual was apprehended in connection with the incident. Both the seized narcotics and the accused have been handed over to the Tengnoupal Police Station for further legal proceedings.
