CHANDEL, Dec 2: In a joint operation to combat the societal and health hazards posed by illegal poppy cultivation, Assam Rifles (AR) and villagers of Molanghat village in Chandel district, Manipur, destroyed poppy plantations spanning approximately 2.5 square kilometers on Saturday.
Assam Rifles, in a statement on Monday, highlighted that the initiative is part of its long-standing efforts to raise awareness about the harmful effects of poppy cultivation. Over time, AR has conducted extensive campaigns to educate the villagers about the societal damage and legal consequences associated with such activities.
Inspired by these awareness drives, the villagers took an active role in addressing the issue and joined hands with Assam Rifles to eradicate the poppy fields. This collaborative action signifies a significant step towards fostering a safer and healthier community.
