MAO, Nov 22: The Debate Club of Asufii Christian Institute (ACI), in collaboration with the National Service Scheme (NSS) ACI unit, successfully organised its first-ever Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament on Friday. The Youth Parliament showcased well-researched, articulate speeches that examined the 1975 Emergency from multiple angles — constitutional checks and balances, procedural violations, suspension of civil liberties, and clampdown on press freedom. Notably, several participants acknowledged the difficulty of defending a period widely criticised in historical records, resulting in moments of unexpected sympathy for the proponents of the Emergency.

The debate session was described as both chaotic and insightful, revealing the students’ high level of engagement, analytical thinking, and willingness to confront complex political issues.

In his concluding remarks, the MLA expressed heartfelt appreciation for the participants, praising their preparation and potential. He reminded students of the importance of humility and gratitude, saying, “Thank God before anything else.”

The inaugural Youth Parliament at ACI was declared successful and satisfactory, marking what may become an annual tradition aimed at strengthening political awareness and democratic values among students. The event also fulfilled the long-cherished dream of dedicated faculty member NG Mary Saza, My Bharat – NSS Presidential Awardee (2022–23), whose vision and commitment inspired this initiative.
