IMPHAL, Feb 18: ASUFII FA, Mao emerged as the champions of the 15th Shaheed Manoranjan Singh Memorial Football Tournament after defeating SJC, Salam 4-2 in a penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw in regulation time. The thrilling final took place at the SAI Football Turf in Takyel on Monday.
The 16-team knockout tournament, organized jointly by the 69 Bn CRPF and Imphal West District Football Association under the aegis of Manipur and Nagaland Sector CRPF and the All Manipur Football Association, has seen intense competition, and ASUFII FA’s victory marks a proud achievement for the team.
In the shootout, ASUFII FA triumphed 4-2, with successful conversions from Korouhanba Laishram, P Sorormi, Mathanmi Ningshen, and Waikhom Arunkumar. SJC’s Tensubam Donaldo and Leishangthem Ronit scored, but it wasn’t enough to secure the win for their side. Ultimately, ASUFII FA sealed the game with a 5-3 scoreline, clinching the coveted trophy.
ASUFII FA walked away with a cash prize of Rs 3,00,000, while SJC, Salam took home Rs 2,00,000 along with a trophy. Additionally, individual awards were handed out to recognize outstanding performances throughout the tournament.
P Sorormi of ASUFII FA was named the highest goal scorer, S Tara was adjudged the best goalkeeper, and L Suraj was named the best player, with each receiving a cash prize of Rs 10,000. Md Sohail of SJC was declared the man of the match and was awarded a cash prize of Rs 1,000.
