IMPHAL, Dec 18: Congress MP A. Bimol Akoijam has expressed grave concern over a recent attack on newly resettled internally displaced persons (IDPs), terming it a “coordinated assault” that exposes serious lapses in security and governance.
Addressing the media, Akoijam said the incident was deeply disturbing and highlighted the failure of authorities to effectively disarm armed groups despite repeated assurances. He stressed that the safe resettlement of displaced families cannot be achieved unless robust security measures are ensured on the ground.
“The coordinated nature of the attack clearly indicates that armed groups continue to operate freely. This shows that disarmament has not been properly carried out, which is a matter of serious concern,” the Congress MP said, adding that vulnerable communities remain at risk without concrete action.
Akoijam further stated that he has raised the issue in Parliament, urging the Centre to urgently review its security strategy in Manipur and fix accountability. He reiterated that he would continue to pursue the matter in the House until effective steps are taken to safeguard IDPs, restore public confidence, and ensure lasting peace.
