Patna, July 17: In a landmark move aimed at easing the financial burden of electricity bills, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced that all electricity consumers in the state will receive 125 units of electricity free of cost each month, starting August 1.

The announcement, made during a state-level programme at ‘Sankalp’ in Patna, has been widely welcomed across the state, especially by economically weaker and rural households. Beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the Nitish-led government for the relief, which many say will improve their quality of life.

“This scheme is very beneficial for us. Now we will be able to use electricity freely and take full advantage of it,” said Pankaj Kumar Singh, a farmer from Kather village in Banka district. Echoing the sentiment, Manchan Devi, a housewife from Fatehpur Panchayat, said the ₹400 she used to spend on electricity bills can now be redirected to more pressing needs.

The Bihar government has committed to preparing a detailed implementation plan to ensure that every eligible household receives the benefit without delay or exclusion. Additionally, in a move toward sustainable energy, the government plans to install rooftop solar panels on domestic residences or nearby public spaces over the next three years.
